How to Set and Review TradingView Indicator Alerts

An alert tells you that a configured condition occurred. It does not tell you whether the current price, spread, and risk still make the setup suitable.

Quick answer

Add the indicator to your TradingView chart, open Create alert, select the indicator condition supplied by the script, set the symbol, timeframe, trigger frequency, and notification method, then test and review the alert. After changing indicator settings, inspect or recreate existing alerts because TradingView may retain the settings captured when they were created.

A practical workflow

  1. Step 1

    Add and configure

Open the intended symbol and timeframe, then apply the indicator and review its settings.

  2. Step 2

    Create the alert

Choose the indicator condition in TradingView's alert dialog rather than a generic price condition.

  3. Step 3

    Select notifications

Check the alert name, message, expiration, and app, email, or desktop notification options available on your account.

  4. Step 4

    Verify after a trigger

Open the live chart, check whether the relevant candle closed, and review trend, invalidation, spread, and position size.

Use the intended condition

TradingView distinguishes price alerts from technical alerts based on indicators, strategies, and drawing tools. When you want a script's BUY or SELL condition, select that indicator and the specific condition exposed by it. The available condition names depend on the script and version shown in your account.

Before saving, confirm that the symbol and interval match the chart you intend to monitor. A condition designed for one timeframe should not be assumed to mean the same thing on another.

  • Correct indicator and condition
  • Correct symbol and timeframe
  • Appropriate trigger frequency
  • Meaningful alert name and message

Bar close and changing settings

A marker can appear while a candle is still forming. If your process requires confirmation, configure the alert frequency to match that rule and verify the completed candle when notified. Do not treat every intrabar move as a final setup.

TradingView documents that changing indicator parameters after an alert has been created can leave the alert using its old settings. After changing inputs or switching the script, review the alert manager and recreate or edit alerts as needed. Test one alert before relying on a set of them.

Notifications are not orders

TradingView can send app, email, pop-up, and other alert actions according to the options available to your account and device. Device permissions can prevent a phone notification even when the alert itself triggered. An alert delivered late may also describe a price that has moved away from the planned entry.

TradeStreamAI indicator alerts are analytical notifications. They do not place a broker order. Open the chart, confirm the current quote and setup, and decide whether the original risk plan still applies.

A useful post-alert checklist

Record the time the alert fired and the price when you actually saw it. Compare the two, check the latest candle, and look for nearby resistance or support. If the stop distance or potential target has changed materially, calculate the trade again or skip it.

For a repeatable process, save a chart screenshot alongside the alert name and final decision. Reviewing ignored alerts as well as trades can reveal whether a condition is too noisy for your market or timeframe.

  • Did the bar close?
  • Is the price still near the planned entry?
  • Where is invalidation now?
  • What is the reward after costs?
  • Would this breach a daily risk limit?

Common questions

Why did my indicator alert not match my new settings?

TradingView notes that alerts can retain the indicator parameters in effect when they were created. Review or recreate the alert after changing inputs.

Can TradingView indicator alerts notify my phone?

TradingView supports app notifications when the app and device permissions are configured. Delivery also depends on your account and notification settings.

Does a BUY alert automatically place a trade?

No. TradeStreamAI indicator alerts notify you of configured chart conditions; they do not execute an order.
